Initiatives in the area of education

Government has launched schemes such as e-Books and e-Basta which provides books (including freely downloadable books) in various Indian languages in Digital form. Further details on www.ebasta.in

In partnership with National Literacy Mission, (NLM) of India, TCS has developed Computer Based Functional Literacy (CBFL) programmes which are currently operating in nine Indian languages. The project, based on multimedia teaches a person to read/write in 30-40 hours spread over 10-12 weeks and does not require trained teachers.

CBFL is also exported to South Africa where a version in Northern Sotho language is being implemented in Lephalale, Northern Province. An Arabic version of the programme is also being used in Egypt and Morocco.
